If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I love coming up with designs for the national specialty shows. I’m a self-taught graphic designer, so my first few years were pretty basic. However, as my graphic design skills improved, my designs got better.
Which leads me to the design I created for 2024… drum roll, please.
I am really, really proud of this design and hope you guys love it as much as I do!
National Newfoundland Specialty in Duluth, Minnesota
I am beyond excited that nationals will be in my part of the country. Sure, Duluth is about a five-hour drive for me, but when you live in North Dakota that’s just down the road. Not only is it semi-local for me now, but I grew up outside of Duluth for a few years as a kid.
Duluth is a beautiful port town on Lake Superior located in the heart of what I consider the North Woods.
Design Inspiration from Duluth
I am a huge space and space weather nerd. The very first time I remember seeing the northern lights was at our lake house outside Duluth. Dad would come home really late from work and one night he woke me up to see them. They were incredible dancing overhead and it’s always something that has stuck with me.
Now, as an adult, I actively forecast and seek out the northern lights as we get closer and closer to solar maximum in 2025. Through my unique hobby, I have gotten some stunning shots of the aurora and Duluth is perfectly positioned to be able to see the northern lights. We may even have an opportunity to see them while we’re there!
With a few paragraphs about the northern lights like that, of course, I had to incorporate them into my design.
From there, I knew I needed to incorporate something uniquely Duluth in the design. And the city is known for its iconic lift bridge.
And lastly, of course, a Newfie had to be featured in the design. This is an event all about the Newfoundlands after all.
Where Can You Get the Design?
On Shop Love Newfoundlands of course!
The design will be available on shirts, long and short sleeves, hoodies, sweatshirts, drool towels, tumblers, totes, a plush throw blanket (Duluth will be colder than you guys think in May!), and some other fun items as I find them!
I also have a super cool limited edition collector’s item in the works. My goal is to do them every year from here on out! So keep an eye on the Facebook page for more information on them!
The cut-off date to be guaranteed to receive your order before nationals is April 5, 2024.
